Gem Blossom Quilt in Flower Garden

Gem Blossom Quilt Pattern is a block-based design that works beautifully with fat eighths or fat quarters. This beginner-friendly pattern is easy to piece using the stitch-and-flip method and is perfect for showing off your favorite fabric collections.

One of my personal favorites is Flower Garden by Hang Tight Studio for Cloud9 Fabrics. I love how Gem Blossom turned out in this collection. I also used Flower Garden in a baby quilt I made for my niece with my Rail Fence pattern. The colors and vintage-inspired florals are so pretty.

This collection is now out of stock in my shop, but you may be able to find it online. Or if you love the look, shop your stash for navy, coral, and gold prints in a mix of light, medium, and dark values. This quilt was made with just eight half yards.

Longarm Quilting Details

I did the longarm quilting at APQS, using the Triplet pantograph by Ma Tante Quilting. It pairs so nicely with the florals and stitched out beautifully. My friend and longarm quilter used this design on another quilt for me a few years ago, so it was fun to use it again and do the longarming myself.

A Weekend Quilt Retreat on Hood Canal

I finished this quilt top during a weekend quilt retreat on the Hood Canal in Union, Washington. I went with my dear friend Patty from the post office. I ship my packages from our local post office, and when I found out Patty is a quilter, we became fast friends.

When a spot opened up for the October quilt retreat, I jumped at the opportunity. New quilty friends? Sign me up! I packed my bundle of Flower Garden and worked on this quilt all weekend. It took just two days of almost non-stop sewing, with plenty of chatting and walks mixed in, to finish the quilt top.

We walked down to the water, and I brought my quilt along for a memory photo. Here is another picture taken from the deck of St. Andrew’s House, where we stayed. It was such a gorgeous weekend.
