About the collection
Creatures Great and Small by Beck Ng for Cloud9 Fabrics is a joyful celebration of all the creatures, great and small, that we share this world with. From lions, alligators, birds, and insects to flowers and other flora and fauna, the collection brings together a playful mix of prints inspired by the natural world.
The collection also carries a thoughtful message: a reminder that we all have a part to play in protecting the creatures and natural world we share, for generations to come.
Cloud9 Fabrics uses only 100% certified organic cotton for its base cloths and eco-responsible, low-impact dyes for printing and dyeing.
About the designer
BECK NG is a surface designer with a love of creating patterns and making things. Her designs are stylized, color-driven, and inspired by her travels, nature and everyday life around Melbourne, Australia.
Beck has worked with clients in Australia and internationally, with a particular love of seeing her designs come to life on fabric. Alongside her client work, she started her own label, Fabric Drawer, to showcase her designs on a small range of fabric and paper products.
Project Inspiration
One of my favorite beginner quilts, and a great option for a charity quilt, is the Rail Fence Baby Quilt. It comes together quickly using just 8 fat quarters, making it a perfect project for a coordinated fat quarter bundle.
The pattern includes instructions for a 36½” x 48½” crib-size quilt, along with a quilt size guide to help you make larger sizes if you’d like to scale up your project. A 8-piece half yard bundle, or two 8-piece fat quarter bundles will make a 48½” x 60½” lap size quilt.
Fabric Requirements:
Baby Quilt 36½” x 48½”
– 8 Fat Quarters (prints)
– ½ yard for binding
– 1½ yards for backing
The backing amount is suitable for home quilting. If you’re sending your quilt to a longarm quilter, plan for 2 yards of backing to allow for extra overage. Longarm quilters typically need the backing to extend at least 4″ beyond the quilt top on all sides so it can be properly loaded onto the longarm machine. When quilting on your home machine, you don’t need quite as much extra backing.
