Bible Sampler Quilt Progress – Week 1

|

My daily Bible Sampler Quilt routine has been a bright spot in my week. Since my last update on June 18, I’ve finished 8 more blocks. So that’s 8 blocks in 12 days. Not quite the block-a-day pace I originally aimed for, but still great progress!

Some blocks took more time than others, especially Bird’s Nest with all its tiny pieces, and the ones with Y-seams like Basket and Brick Pile. But even the tricky ones are turning out beautifully.

Before I start sewing, I take time to measure each piece and write the measurements directly on the foundation paper. I also mark each section with L, M, or D to indicate whether I want a light, medium, or dark fabric there. Then create a quick cutting list. If several pieces are close in size, I simplify by rounding them up to match – so if most are 1 1/4″, but a few are 1 1/2″, I just them all at 1 1/2″. It uses a bit more fabric, but saves a lot of time at the cutting table.

Carol Doak’s videos have been so helpful, I’ve binge-watched them all! If you’re getting into foundation paper piecing, I highly recommend these:
