Sew a Scrap-Friendly Blossom Pillow – A Sweet Spring Project
April showers bring May flowers – and the flowers are blooming in my sewing room with this scrap fabric flower pillow pattern, my newest quilted pillow project. I’ve been dreaming up this design for quite some time, and I’m so excited to finally share it with you. This pretty pillow pattern is scrap-friendly, beginner-friendly, and the perfect way to welcome spring into your home — without the pollen! Let’s make some fabric flowers for your couch!

Why You’ll Love This Pattern
This pillow was designed to bring joy to your sewing table—and your home!
- Each block is a sweet little flower that’s fun to piece
- Scrap-friendly – use what you have!
- A great weekend project or gift idea
- Includes a coloring sheet to help you plan your fabric placement
“These little blocks are such a joy to make—and it’s a beautiful way to turn scraps into something new.”
Selecting Fabrics for Your Scrap Fabric Flower Pillow
One of my favorite parts of this project is picking out the fabrics. Since each flower block uses just a 2½” x 10″ strip, it’s a great opportunity to dig into your scrap basket. I pulled floral prints, soft blenders, and a few pieces that just felt “happy” — you know the ones. (Tell me your fabric doesn’t whisper “pick me!” sometimes.)

For the first pillow I made, I used leftover prints from recent projects (including one from each of the fabric collections from my first year as a quilt shop!) , and I love how soft and springy it turned out.
I also made a second version with Liberty quilting fabrics — those tiny florals were made for a pattern like this! You can find my curated Liberty bundle in the shop if you want to create something similar.

Making the Flower Pillow: My Process + a Few Detours
As always, every quilt journey has its moments!
I first tried a purple background, but it just didn’t feel right.
So I pulled out my seam ripper and started fresh with white fabric—and I’m so glad I did.

Once I swapped in a white background, everything came together. I shared a little video laying out the blocks, and the song clip playing says “that’s perfect” — because honestly? It felt like it. 😊

Liberty Fabrics Flower Pillow Version
After finishing my first one, I made another sample using a bundle of Liberty of London prints. These soft florals are so delicate and dreamy—perfect for this pattern.

The best part of making this pillow is selecting the fabrics. All you need are some floral print scraps and a white background fabric. I used my Quilt Project Tracker to map out fabric choices and progress as I stitched this pillow — it’s a handy tool for finishing more projects.
