Points of Interest Quilt Block of the Month

|

I’m excited to share a new project I’ll be working on with you! Have you heard that American Patchwork & Quilting magazine is hosting a Block of the Month beginning in October 2025 and running through August 2026.

I’ll be sewing along and sharing my progress here on the blog. To make it extra fun, I re-colored the quilt in EQ8 with some of my favorite fabrics, and I can’t wait to see how it comes together.

About the Quilt

The Points of Interest quilt, designed by Lori Miller, finishes at 64″ x 80″ and is made up of 10 different 8″ blocks repeated throughout the layout.

You can see a mock-up of all 10 blocks in the illustrations below to get a sense of how the quilt comes together. It looks more complicated than it really is. I see half square triangles, squares, rectangles, flying geese, stitch and flip corners… what do you see?

My Fabric Choices

I decided to work with the Heirloom collection by Sharon Holland for Art Gallery Fabrics. I love the combination of blues and browns together, and to brighten things up, I chose a cheerful orange and yellow floral for the backing.

Here’s the fabric pull I’m starting with:

  • Prairie House – 7/8 yard brown (“light green”)
  • Chasing Daisies – 1 yard orange (“green”) + binding
  • Dad’s Plaid – 3/4 yard blue (“aqua”)
  • Time Was – 1 yard blue (“blue”)
  • Hand Stitching – 1 yard light blue (“light aqua”)
  • Magic Hour – 1 yard dark blue (“navy”)
  • Queen Bee Retro – 3 5/8 yards (“white” background)
  • Golden Days – 5 yards backing
  • 73″ x 89″ batting

Note: The color names listed in quotes (“light green”, “blue”, etc.) are how the fabrics are labeled in the pattern instructions.

Kit Update: Original Magazine Coloring Now Available

Since first sharing this post, I heard from a customer, who was interested in making the Points of Interest quilt in the original coloring shown in the magazine. I loved that idea so much that I decided to order fabric and put together kits in that version.

The kits use Texture by Sandy Gervais for Riley Blake Designs and include:

  • 1 yard each of:
    • Texture Denim
    • Texture Navy
    • Texture Aqua
    • Texture Glacier
    • Texture Key Lime
    • Texture Turtle
  • 4 yards of Texture in White (background)

I ordered enough fabric to make 10 kits in this original colorway.

You can shop the Points of Interest kit here.

If you’re interested in making the quilt with Heirloom by AGF, send me an email at info@tangledthreadsbyjen.com, i’m considering stocking kits of this version too.

Let’s Quilt Together

I can’t wait to make this quilt over the next year and share the journey with you. Whether you’re sewing the Points of Interest quilt too or just following along for inspiration, I hope you’ll enjoy watching it take shape!
